When the United Kingdom government announced the Lockdown of the country and social distancing measures on March 23rd 2020 I instantly felt rather restricted in my usual photography habits.
However, I did not lay my camera down.
I looked for a way to document this Pandemic whilst adhering to the governments’ social distancing guidelines, giving birth to this project which I have titled ‘From the Doorstep – An Isolation Lockdown Project’.
The self-imposed strict remit is simple, take photos no further than the square meter in front of my front gate here in central Ipswich. It has quickly become one of the most meaningful bodies of work that I have produced and has been requested by the Suffolk Archives as a permanent record of the current Covid-19 Pandemic and as a sociocultural snapshot of Ipswich in 2020.
I am working on producing a series of short books in the Zine style that further tells the story of some of the individuals in this project.
This gallery is regularly being updated as this is an ongoing project.
