General Tour information
For all our tours we are privileged to operate within the ‘Suffolk Coast and Heaths’ Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an area of countryside recognised as having natural features of exceptional beauty and therefore given a Government protected status.
The quiet, tranquil Suffolk lanes are yours to explore with your guide. Based on your preferences identified in the ‘Getting to know You’ form, we will have your tour itinerary in place, ready to adapt as the tour progresses. Traveling by 4×4 vehicle, our tours typically take in local landmarks, beauty spots and areas of known wildlife activity.
Suffolk has a relaxed, slow pace of life which we like to reflect in our Full Day Tours. As we gently stroll through an English woodland, or watch as birds-of-prey scan their landscape for prey, or sit in a centuries-old church, our tours allow you to truly unwind and take in all the beauty of your surroundings. We have numerous traditional pubs on our routes and like our guests to enjoy a drink-on-us as part of your tour.
Our Lead-Guide Philip Charles is skilled with a camera and offers help and tuition for guests on his tours. Whatever camera you are using (mobile phone/compact/bridge/DSLR) he aims to improve your photography with a few simple steps to follow.
Upon booking/enquiry you will receive a ‘Getting to know You’ form – our way of making sure you get the most out of your time with us. Join us to experience England at its finest, join us to be enchanted, join us to learn and to engage, join us to truly feel the Spirit of Suffolk.
Our tours typically start and end in the Ipswich area however we can begin and end the tour at locations more convenient for you! We also provide an airport drop-off and pick-up service if you would like to start or end your UK visit with us.
Arrival by train from London
If coming in from London by train then we will begin the tour at Manningtree railway station. There is a regular train service operating from London Liverpool Street station to Manningtree and the journey time is approximately 50 minutes. It is a picturesque trip that certainly sets the scene for the exciting day ahead of you. A buffet cart is available on most services serving hot and cold drinks and light refreshments. We are here to assist you with any travel bookings you may wish to make, bookings can be made directly using www.nationalrail.co.uk/
We recommend an off-peak return.
Arrival by car from London
If you are travelling by car then we would typically begin the tour at Manningtree railway station. Our advice is to make your way onto the M25, and then join the A12 near Brentwood (Junction 28 of the M25). Stay on the A12 for 40 minutes or so and take the exit for Langham and then follow signs to Manningtree and then to Manningtree railway station. For Sat-Nav users use ‘Manningtree Station’ or the Post code ‘CO11 2LH’.
